Hushed Light
By Kevin Cortopassi, 3/19/25
I thought I would be the sun,
I seared off your skin and caused you to run.
I became the moon, trapped in your pull,
And my fullness was still too bright.
Maybe I’d try to be the stars
That you see in the night.
I still wasn’t right.
Still, I was too bright.
Drifting away to find my own place,
Alone in the hush of infinite space.
Summer Night Dreams
By Kevin Cortopassi, 8/25/24
Summer rain snuck silently
In the night as it usually does,
Leaving only shadows of absorption on
The concrete and spots on cars.
The open window drew in
An aroma of wet asphalt,
Springing me to a waking dream.
I became a witness to what is usually left unseen.
Try To Hold It Lightly
By Kevin Cortopassi, 2/18/25
I want to live
With palms opened.
No gripping,
The lines in my hands are crooked runways
For both takeoff and landings
So you can stay however long you’d like,
And I won’t be hurt
When you leave.
My name is Kevin Cortopassi and I write to release emotion and pin down fleeting moments in life. My poems often explore grief, beauty, and the passing of time, always trying to hold onto or watch what’s already slipping away. They tend to be short, unresolved, and full of dramatic emotions.
